We finally have some answers for little Bennie. This tiny Cavalier puppy came to us just a few days ago utterly comatose. We were told he had a heart murmur, but there was obviously so much more going on. So many things were off – high white blood cells, low red blood cells, acute pancreatitis, devastatingly low glucose levels, and pneumonia-like symptoms. After exams and tests at our regular vet and emergency vet, we took Bennie to the University of Illinois this morning where they did an echocardiogram and ultrasound and more tests and finally found what they believe is the cause of his issues. Bennie has intestinal intussusception, which means part of his intestines slides into itself like a closing telescope. The condition is fortunately repairable with surgery.
That’s fantastic news, but we really need your help again. We had a benefactor who donated towards his emergency care this weekend and the remaining funds will go toward Bennie’s surgery. But that leaves us still needing to raise $5,000 more money. Bennie is alert and aware and the meds seem to be working. We always struggle in difficult situations because we want to do everything possible as long as a pup’s quality of life is still great. We believe Bennie is fighting and wants that chance.
Several years ago, we had a dog named Teka who had the same condition. She is happy and active (she kayaks!) in her forever home. We’d like to give Bennie that same opportunity. The surgery needs to be done ASAP, so we’re asking once again for your help. We are looking into medical grants and any method we can to raise the funds Bennie needs. Please help if you can. Every dollar counts to save his life.
Thank you so much!
