Speak! Rescue and Sanctuary
Starla’s story is so heartbreaking. On Christmas eve, several years ago, we welcomed Starla in our rescue. This completely blind and deaf tiny puppy was found in the snow by a UPS delivery driver who was working hard delivering packages. It’s a miracle he spotted her at all. Starla was likely dumped because of her disabilities, and she was taken away from her mom and siblings way too soon. She had to learn to bond with people and animals. It was a difficult beginning, but she was a survivor.
Starla was adopted by a patient and kind woman who worked with her and loved her for several years. But this year was a tough one for Starla’s human. She had problems with a job and had to move into a home where Starla couldn’t be. Starla is back with Speak and it’s been a stressful time adjusting to a change in people and places. She has had seizures and we’re working hard to make her transition easier. We don’t know if and when Starla will be back with her mom, but she’s very welcome back in the Speak family because she and all of our pups, even when adopted, are our family.
When Starla needed to come back, we didn’t have an open foster but we made room because she needed us. When the sanctuary is ready, Starla will be one of the first residents. And that will open up a space in a foster home to save another. We know that you are asked to give so much this time of year, but please consider a gift this Christmas Eve to help us finish the essentials at the sanctuary so Starla will have a place to live as long as she needs us.
