Brayleigh looks nothing like she did when we rescued her a few years ago. This Aussie mix was found roaming the streets of Texas. She had massive skin and ear infections, hardly any fur, and was blind and deaf. But Brayleigh is a big-time survivor. After months of medicated baths, immunotherapy injections, double knee surgery, and heartworm treatment, she began to recover.

Braleigh’s hard-knock life has been tough on her. She’s not very trusting and doesn’t like strangers. She’s also picky about other dogs and doesn’t like to be brushed or have her nails clipped. She’s sweet and affectionate with the people she knows and loves. We’re still hoping, but the perfect home just hasn’t surfaced for this sassy spitfire.

When we first rescued Brayleigh she cried constantly. She was miserable. Yet, she is so resilient after living through so much, even more than we will ever know. While we haven’t been able to find her a forever home, we do know she is no longer suffering and though her circle of friends remains small, she is one happy girl.

On Thanksgiving Eve, we learned about a precious girl in a Texas shelter whose stray hold was up. She is deaf, blind, had fur missing from a skin condition, had puppies, and wears scars that gave us a sneak peek into her previous existence. She will never be able to tell us her story, but it’s obvious she suffered a horrific life and had faced unsuspecting harm.
We named this sweet soul, Brayleigh (“ray of hope”), and we continue to give her that ray of hope, that chance to live a beautiful life filled with love and reassurance that no harm will ever come to her again.
